LANDSCAPE DESIGN IN MECHANICSBURG, PA

Custom Outdoor Living by an Award-Winning Team

Every Mechanicsburg property comes with its own conditions to design around. Homes near the historic downtown sit on compact lots, while the newer neighborhoods in Hampden and Silver Spring Townships often start with open, builder-grade yards. Much of the Cumberland Valley also sits on limestone bedrock and clay-heavy soil, which shapes how the ground drains.

Our award-winning landscape designers start with your ideas and a close look at your site. From there, they plan every patio, planting, and outdoor room around how your family spends time outside. The result is a custom landscape design in Mechanicsburg, PA made for your property and the way you live.

CUSTOM OUTDOOR LIVING

Landscape Design in Mechanicsburg, PA

Maybe you already have a clear vision for your yard, or maybe you want a designer to help shape one. Either way, you see exactly how your new outdoor space will look before construction begins, through 2D and 3D design concepts and a detailed proposal. From vibrant plantings and paver patios to outdoor kitchens and fire features, you choose the features that fit the way you live outside.

Local conditions factor into every plan from the start. Setback and permit rules differ between Mechanicsburg Borough and the surrounding townships. Clay-heavy Cumberland Valley soils also hold water after a hard summer storm, so drainage and stormwater management get planned alongside the patios and plantings instead of being added later.

FLAVORFUL GETAWAYS

Outdoor Kitchens in Mechanicsburg, PA

Cooking and serving good food is more enjoyable outside. Grill sweet corn and peaches from Cumberland County farm stands on a summer weeknight, or host a crowd after a day at Jubilee Day downtown. Your outdoor kitchen quickly becomes the favorite room of the house.

Each kitchen is planned around how you cook, with a built-in grill, counter space for prep and serving, storage, and seating for guests. Placing it under a pavilion in Mechanicsburg, PA keeps the grill going when a sudden summer storm rolls through. A nearby fire pit or fireplace carries the evening well past sunset.

INVITING WARMTH

Fire Features in Mechanicsburg, PA

Central Pennsylvania's best outdoor weather often comes in the cool evenings of spring and fall. A fire pit or outdoor fireplace makes those nights more comfortable, from crisp October weekends to the first mild evenings in April. The warmth stretches your outdoor season by weeks on both ends.

Choose a wood-burning fire pit for crackle and campfire tradition, or a gas-fueled feature that lights at the turn of a key. Open burning rules vary between Mechanicsburg Borough and the surrounding townships, so fuel type gets settled early in the design. Built-in seating walls around the fire give everyone a place to gather, and a covering from our pergolas and pavilions turns a fireplace into a year-round outdoor room.

FOUNDATIONAL SURFACES

Patios & Walkways in Mechanicsburg, PA

A custom patio or walkway is where every outdoor experience begins, so it has to hold up to Central Pennsylvania winters. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles and clay soils that stay wet into spring can heave and shift a surface that sits on a thin base. Each patio and walkway is built on a properly excavated and compacted aggregate base, with pavers or natural stone chosen to match your home's style and your family's traffic. Permeable pavers are an option on lots where runoff is a concern.

Thoughtful outdoor lighting along paths and steps keeps the space safe and inviting after dark. When the surface needs a refresh years later, paver restoration brings back its color and stability.

COMFORT SOLUTIONS

Pergolas & Pavilions in Mechanicsburg, PA

Mechanicsburg summers bring long, sunny afternoons and the humidity that comes with them. A pergola or pavilion gives the whole family a shaded place to cool off between swims, share a meal, or watch a game outside. Customize the space with ceiling fans, canopy systems, entertainment systems, and more.

Pergolas add filtered shade and architectural interest over a patio or lounge area. Pavilions provide full roof cover, and they're built to handle Central Pennsylvania winter snow loads and keep the space dry through summer storms. Either structure pairs well with an outdoor kitchen or a relaxing water feature nearby.

ILLUMINATE YOUR LIFE

Outdoor Lighting in Mechanicsburg, PA

In Mechanicsburg, the sun sets before 5 p.m. through much of December, which leaves little daylight for your backyard after work. Carefully placed outdoor lighting brings those evening hours back. Path and step lights guide guests safely along walkways, while a soft ambient glow shows off your outdoor living areas and landscape.

Low-voltage LED systems highlight the details that give your property its character. They can wash light across the brick of a historic home near downtown or across the stone front of a newer build in Silver Spring Township. Uplighting on mature trees and plantings adds depth after dark, and lighting along a paver driveway makes your arrival home feel as welcoming at night as it does by day.

FIND YOUR ZEN

Water Features in Mechanicsburg, PA

The Yellow Breeches and Conodoguinet Creeks give the Mechanicsburg area some of its most peaceful scenery. A custom water feature brings that same calm into your own backyard. Choose from cascading waterfalls, bubbling fountains, trickling streams, or tranquil ponds, each designed to suit your space.

Moving water also softens background noise from busy corridors such as the Carlisle Pike, Trindle Road, and Route 15, so a patio or poolside seating area feels more private. Natural stone and surrounding plantings help the feature blend into the landscape. Pumps and plumbing are planned for easy seasonal shutdown before Central Pennsylvania's winter freeze.

RELIABLE SUPPORT

Retaining & Seating Walls in Mechanicsburg, PA

Most of Mechanicsburg sits on gently rolling ground, but many yards still have a slope or a grade change toward the south end of Upper Allen and Monroe Townships near South Mountain. Retaining walls turn those slopes into level, usable space for patios, gardens, and play areas. Seating walls define an outdoor room and give guests a place to settle in without extra furniture.

Clay-heavy Cumberland Valley soil holds water and pushes hard against a wall after heavy rain and freeze-thaw cycles. Each wall is built with a compacted base, clean drainage aggregate, and perforated pipe behind the wall stone to relieve that pressure and keep the wall standing straight for years. A curved seating wall around a fire pit or along the edge of a paver patio adds structure and seating in one feature.

GRAND ENTRANCES

Paver Driveways in Mechanicsburg, PA

Your driveway is the first thing guests see, and in Mechanicsburg it also takes a beating every winter. Snowplows, rock salt, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles crack and pit poured concrete and asphalt over time. Interlocking pavers flex with ground movement instead of splitting, and a damaged section can be lifted and replaced without tearing out the whole surface.

Each paver driveway is designed and built by expert craftsmen on a deep, compacted base sized for vehicle weight. Choose colors and patterns that complement your home, then carry the look to the front door with a matching walkway. Low-voltage outdoor lighting along the edges makes the entrance just as striking after dark.

NATURE’S BEAUTY

Plantings in Mechanicsburg, PA

Lush plantings, ornamental trees, and colorful shrubs bring life to every part of your outdoor space. In Mechanicsburg, the right plant choices start with the ground itself. Dense clay soil needs amending for healthy root growth, and deer regularly browse yards along the edges of Hampden and Silver Spring Townships. Each planting plan accounts for sun exposure, soil, and deer pressure, so what goes in the ground thrives instead of struggling.

Native trees and shrubs such as eastern redbud, serviceberry, and river birch handle Central Pennsylvania's winters and humid summers well and support local pollinators. Beds are layered for color from spring blooms through fall foliage, and each installation is handled by an award-winning team. Irrigation and ongoing planting care keep new plantings healthy through their first critical seasons.

Good Impressions

Spring & Fall Cleanups in Mechanicsburg, PA

Every season change leaves its mark on a Mechanicsburg property. Mature maples and oaks in the borough's older neighborhoods drop heavy loads of leaves each fall. Winter then leaves broken branches, matted beds, and debris behind by the time spring arrives. Professional spring and fall cleanups keep your outdoor space clean and healthy year-round.

Fall cleanups clear leaves and debris, cut back perennials, and prepare beds before the first hard freeze. Spring cleanups remove winter damage, reshape bed edges, and get plantings ready for the growing season. A fresh layer of mulching and a seasonal fertilization program finish the job and set your landscape up for strong growth.

About Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania

Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania sits in the heart of the Cumberland Valley in eastern Cumberland County, about 10 miles southwest of Harrisburg. Blue Mountain frames the valley to the north and South Mountain rises to the south. The Conodoguinet and Yellow Breeches Creeks wind through the farmland and neighborhoods on either side of town. Beneath it all lies limestone bedrock, which gives the valley its fertile soil and gently rolling terrain.

The town grew along the Great Road between Harrisburg and Carlisle. In 1801, George Frankenberger opened a log tavern there to lodge drovers moving livestock, and the building still stands as the oldest structure in Mechanicsburg. The village incorporated as a borough in 1828 and grew further once the Cumberland Valley Railroad arrived. In June 1863, Confederate cavalry raided the town and met Union forces days later at the Skirmish of Sporting Hill, just east of the borough.

The Mechanicsburg Museum Association preserves much of that history today. Its headquarters is the restored 1867 Passenger Station, and the association also maintains the Stationmaster's House, the Freight Station, and the Frankenberger Tavern on East Main Street. Downtown, historic brick buildings along Main Street house local shops and restaurants. Each June, the borough hosts Jubilee Day, one of the region's largest one-day street fairs. Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg and Messiah University in neighboring Upper Allen Township anchor the surrounding community.

Four distinct seasons, warm humid summers, and snowy winters shape life in Mechanicsburg. That climate is the reason GoldGlo Landscapes designs every outdoor space here to perform year-round.
